Update at 3:44 p.m.:| Seattle police just posted this update:

The investigation thus far indicates that this incident started as a disturbance between two males that rapidly spun out of control. It is believed that the initial disturbance began on the southeast corner of 2nd Avenue South and South Main Street. At least two people are believed to have fired guns during the disturbance and five people with gunshot wounds have been identified.

The five people that were shot during the incident are all adults and include three males, ages 24, 20, and 19; and two females, ages 26 and 22.

Responding officers located the most seriously wounded person, the 26-year-old female, on the northeast corner of 2nd Avenue South and South Main Street with a gunshot wound to her facial area.

Fire department medics transported her to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where she remains under treatment.

Eventually, detectives identified four other people with gunshot wounds as being involved in the incident. All four of them sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The male driver of the vehicle stopped at 2nd Avenue South and South King Street was interviewed and released pending further investigation. His vehicle was impounded for further analysis.

One suspect, a 21-year-old male, was identified and arrested away from the scene. He was interviewed and subsequently booked into the King County Jail for felony assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Original post:| Seattle police are now saying gunfire in Pioneer Square this morning left five people injured — including one woman who was critically hurt when she was shot in the jaw.

According to Seattle police, the shooting started after a fight began outside of a nightclub near Second Avenue Extension South and South Main Street just after 1 a.m.

Officers were on their way to the altercation when they heard gunshots, police said. As they drove down Second Avenue Extension South, the patrol car was struck by a beige sedan driven by a woman who was fleeing. The woman, who also ran into a parked car, was detained and questioned, police said.

At the same time, a witness led police to the gravely injured woman lying in the street at the intersection, police said. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what police called life-threatening injuries.

At 1:30 a.m., a second victim of the Pioneer Square shooting, a man, was dropped off at a Seattle hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot, police said. He is being questioned, according to police. The occupants of the car that dropped him off, which was located and detained on Martin Luther King Jr. Way, are also being questioned, police said.

Seattle police say they were contacted by Kent police about a third victim who was in a car Kent officers had pulled over. The victim told officers that he had been shot in Pioneer Square, Seattle police said. He was taken to Harborview.

A spokeswoman for the Seattle Police Department said two more people were reported to have been injured in the shooting, but their involvement was not immediately clear. Police said the only serious injury was to the woman who was shot in the jaw.

SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson said the shooting was complicated and involved a lot of different players. He said detectives with the homicide and assault unit are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. More details are expected to be released later today.

The car with passengers inside that was detained was driving on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. drive. That says it all, doesn't it?

Amish street gang versus Mormon street gang. A battle over turf I am sure.

Ya, it's the Amish again, the negro Amish.

I was incorrect. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Way and not Drive.

How incorrect of me.

Off to the Gulag and pronto.

Every town has one now too [a street named after King]. Every one MUST HAVE one now.

Yoder I suppose. Yoder is the most common name among the Amish.

The Yoder gang.
