I believe it was Gore Vidal who said that the three saddest words in the English language were Joyce Carol Oates.
He certainly was on to something.
Don is a strong family man. Raised all his kids successfully and cares about them. Barron too is raised the right way and has a good home. Even at age 70 Don is still a vigorous man.
